The Netherlands’ oldest sugar factory closed in 1992. Today, the site is an industrial event venue and makes regular TV appearances, including the drama series Penoza and Vlucht HS13.222 The Binnenstraat’s original details also make it particularly well suited to television.
Once the main artery of the sugar factory, it now links all the different areas of the complex. Its distinctive features include brick walls and an eye-catching symmetrical arrangement of pillars that emphasises its elongated L shape. Many producers have found that its raw industrial feel makes an ideal set.
The Voice of Holland, the Netherlands’ version of The Voice, was recorded in the Middenfabriek, the biggest space at SugarCity Events. The Binnenstraat served as a steal room, and the Pulppersloods became the entrance area. The Binnenstraat can be used for many different purposes, such as a production office, VIP area, or breakout room.
Its big doors make it easy to bring in large vehicles and items of equipment for TV recordings.
